Two very different kinds of array

MV BASIC has fixed, dimensioned arrays and dynamic arrays. A DIM array reserves a known number of variables for calculations inside a program. A dynamic array is one string whose structure is encoded with MultiValue delimiter characters. They use similar-looking subscripts, but their storage and behavior are fundamentally different.
